The Founder
The Founder is a 2016 American biographical drama film directed by John Lee Hancock and written by Robert Siegel
This independent film portrays the story of the creation of the McDonald's fast food chain. The film grossed only $24 million worldwide against a budget of $25 million, but received generally positive reviews from critics. The film was just short of breaking even

From watching this independent film myself, you could see that it had the potential to win many awards as personally it portrayed the story of McDonalds very well, the acting was superb especially from Micheal Keaton (Ray Croc) and the history of the biggest fast food chain of the world was intriguing to me, the film had many morals which you can take away and apply to your everyday life. If the film was released at a better time and didn't shuffle its release date several times, this independent film would have performed better in the box office. This biopic is high up there on my list of favourite films of all time.

This independent film hasn't won many awards as when the film was released, the biopic opened wide on a weekend crowded with popcorn flicks (Split and XXX) and other awards contenders who were already generating a ton of buzz (La La Land and Hidden Figures). The film’s release date also got shuffled around several times, which likely killed some of its momentum. The Founder was originally going to debut on November 25, a choice date smack dab in the middle of awards campaign season, but then Weinstein Co. decided to move its wide release to August 5 and drop another Oscars hopeful, Lion, in the post-Thanksgiving slot instead. Therefore, that affected the performance of the film in the box office.
